ABYZ News Links – Americas It is a directory of links to online news sources from around the world. Organized on a geographical basis, it contains links to newspapers and other sites with news content such as broadcast stations, internet services, magazines, and press agencies. In the Americas’ section, the portal provides access to regional and local outlets. The website is in English but it links to national media in local languages.

Access World News It provides access to news articles from 1972 from more than 9,000 sources, based in more than 150 countries. It is a comprehensive news collection including print and online-only newspapers, blogs, newswires, journals, broadcast transcripts, and videos. Content is easily searched and sorted through an intuitive, map-based interface, and you can search by source type, country, date, or language, among other features. The website is in English but it provides access to national news content published in local languages.

Foreign Broadcast Information Service (FBIS)  This is an archive of 20th Century news from around the world. For nearly 70 years, the FBIS monitored the world’s airwaves and other news outlets, transcribing and translating selected contents into English and, in the process, creating a multi-million page historical archive of the global news media. It includes news about the United States foreign and domestic policy after World War II. The database is searchable by geographical region, date, countries, and language, among other criteria.

Business Wire Latin America  Provides over 100 full text newspapers in Spanish and Portuguese from across Latin America. Key titles include El Universal, Mexico City’s largest-selling newspaper; O Globo (Brazil); La Nación (Argentina); El Mercurio (Chile), El Economista (Mexico), Valor Economico (Brazil), Portafolio (Colombia). Also, it includes wire services Noticias Financieras; InfoAmericas; IPS-Inter Press Service; El Reporte Delta; and Business Wire Latin America, among other Latin American news sources.

Caribbean News Agency (CANA) A multi-media organization based in Barbados, it provides in-depth coverage of the socio-economic and political issues as well as sporting activities in the Caribbean and has correspondents throughout the English and Dutch speaking Caribbean as well as in the Diaspora of North America and Europe.

Caribbean 360 Based in Barbados, the website provides free access to regional news of the Caribbean region, including current affairs, general interest stories, economics, politics, and sports. In English.

Caribbean Newspaper Digital Archive (CNDL) This archive provides access to digitized versions of Caribbean newspapers, gazettes, and other materials on newsprint held in archives, libraries, and private collections in the Caribbean and circum-Caribbean regions, and it is still adding historical and current newspapers in order to expand the material available. The website and the search tool are both available in English, Spanish, and French, and you can search by language, publisher, and type of publication, such as newspapers or magazines. The map search also helps to geographically locate the inquiry. The CNDL is maintained by the Digital Library of the Caribbean (dLOC), created by the Archives Nationale d’Haïti, the Caribbean Community Secretariat (CARICOM); the National Library of Jamaica; La Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE); the Universidad de Oriente, Venezuela; the University of the Virgin Islands; the Florida International University; the University of Central Florida; and the University of Florida. The dLOC provides access to more than 2.6 million pages of content related to the Caribbean.

Defensores de la Democracia. “Living archive” of the ongoing killings of Mexican journalists. The site provides information, biographical and professional, and news clippings on those Mexican journalists that have been murdered.

Ethnic NewsWatch (ENW) This database provides access to full-text collection of more than 2.5 million articles from over 340 publications, including newspapers, magazines, and journals of the ethnic and minority press. Nearly a quarter of the material are in Spanish and major Latino publications are available through the database, such as El Nuevo Herald and El Chicano Weekly. Some of the ethnic categories covered by the collection are African American/Caribbean/African; Hispanic, and Native People. A majority of this content is exclusive to ENW and not available in any other database.

Inter Press Services News Agency – Latin America & the Caribbean Created in 1964, IPS is a news agency providing content with a global scope with a perspective from the Global South. It aims to empower a community of journalists, media organizations, and civil society organizations worldwide to promote a global dialogue about communication and development. Library PressDisplay Web-based portal that provides access to over 7,000 newspapers and magazines published in more than 100 countries and in up to 60 languages. Reader can navigate by country, language, type of outlet (magazines or newspapers), or topic (sports, news, or music, among others). MercoPress South Atlantic News Agency Based in Montevideo, Uruguay, MercoPress is a news agency uncovering news related to the Common Market of the South (Mercado Comun del Sur, Mercosur), an economic and political integration project between Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay. Chile, Colombia, Peru, Guyana, and Suriname are associated members. MercoPress focuses on news related to the Mercosur trade and political bloc and member countries. Prensa Latina La Agencia Informativa Latinoamericana Prensa Latina (PL) is the official state news and media agency of Cuba and was created in 1959. It uncovers gender issues, Latin American politics, and indigenous populations, among other topics. OnlineNewspapers – South and Central America and the Caribbean It provides access to hundreds of online newspapers and magazines in Latin American & Caribbean countries, including mainstream and native-web outlets.

UIUC Library Newspaper Database  The University of Illinois Newspaper Database is a catalog of the Library’s newspaper collection. Use it to find newspapers held at UIUC, regardless of format (e.g. original print, microfilm, or digitized). Search the holdings of the History, Philosophy & Newspaper Library by language, title, country, or date, among other criteria. Some of the collections that are helpful for Latin American & Caribbean studies include the Caribbean Newspapers, Hispanic American newspapers, and Latin American Newspapers.

University of New Mexico Latin America Data Base  The LADB is one of the longest running premier news and educational services about Latin America. The LADB features three weekly publications: NotiCen, uncovering Central America and the Caribbean, including Cuba; NotiSur, covering South American affairs, and SourceMex, that focuses on Mexican issues, including matters related to the U.S. – Mexico border and bilateral relations. The LADB also maintains an archive of over 28,000 articles collected from a variety of LA&C news sources and journals. Full access to the database requires a subscription. University of Texas at San Antonio Guide to Latin American online news sources This resource organizes LA&C online news sources by regions (Mexico, Central America, Caribbean, and South America), countries, and A-Z. It links to several websites locally produced. Although the guide is in English, most of the original sources are written in local languages.
