Downloading
and installing the Citrix software for Windows
Note:
You will need to install the Citrix client only once! Once the client
is installed on your machine, it can be used for all Citrix resources.
- Go to the download
page to retrieve the appropriate client. Your client needs will
automatically be determined. You should choose the recommended client.
When you click the link, you will be presented with either running "from
current location", or saving the file. Either way is fine unless
you have emaciated bandwidth (i.e. you have only dial-up access to the
Internet). If you chose to save the file, it is recommended that you
create a directory inside of the "Temp" drive (c:\temp) on
your hard drive. Download size is 1.85 MB.
- Once the download and save
has finished, double click the file to start the installation. You will
see the client's "Installation Shield" wizard and then the
"Welcome" screen. Select the "Next"'
button of the bottom of the window to proceed.
- Once you've read the license
agreement, click "Yes" to move on.
- Choose "Destination
location" (Install directory). You should not change the default
directory it offers you unless you have strong reasons to do otherwise.
The default selection is "C:\program files\Citrix\ICA Client".
You should choose the defaults throughout the installation process.
- You software should now
be installed. You should exit you browser and then re-open it to make
certain that the browser and client work together properly.
- Initial trouble opening
Citrix resources is commonly associated with improper file associations
on your machine. To correct this problem and to find out more about
our Citrix system, please visit the Library
System's Office Citrix FAQ page.
Using the CD-ROM Resources
- Go to the Library's Electronic
Resource Search page and find the Citrix resource you wish to access.
(A list of all available Citrix titles can be found by entering "Citrix"
in the "Title" field and searching all resources).
- You will be taken to a page
that will verify your IP and (if successful) give you the option of
continuing to the resource, downloading the Citrix client, or going
to the Library Systems Office Citrix Faq's (for more help). If you choose
to continue to the resource, your browser will start to download the
application, but may not know what to do with the .ica file type. In
Netscape select 'Pick App'; in Explorer select 'Application'. Browse
to find the "Citrix ICA Client" folder and choose "Citrix
ICA Client" from that folder.
- The first time the Citrix
client is accessed, you should be presented with a dialogue box which
will ask, "What type of access should be allowed". You should
choose "Full Access" to allow the client to map your local
drives back to the Citrix application. This is needed for printing and
saving purposes. For more information regarding printing and saving,
please visit the Library
System's Office Citrix Faq's.
Note:
When you save a file to a drive, your local hard drive is mapped as
"V: C$ on client". When you see a C:\ drive anywhere, this
is the *server's* hard drive -- there are some instances where you may
have the opportunity to save to this. Please select V: instead and keep
the files on your own drive.
