Digital Collections of the World

 

The digital revolution has provided many opportunities for scholars to access interesting and exciting materials from the many corners of the world.  Below are just a few of the visually and intellectually stimulating web sites that are coming available.

CLIOH - A Cultural Digital Library Indexing Our Heritage is a searchable archive of multimedia from threatened cultural heritage sites at Uxmal, Yucatan, Mexico and the Angel Mounds near Evansville, Indiana, United States.

e-codices Virtual Manuscript Collection of Switzerland - The Medieval Institute of the University of Fribourg, Switzerland provides digitized manuscripts from over 380 manuscripts found in 16 different libraries.

European Library - Website of resources from 48 European national libraries.  This resource is a service provided to those looking for all types of library material, from books to maps to photographs and more.  It can be searched by country, by material type and country, or browsed by collection, country, subject or description.

Global Gateway - Brought to us from the United States' Library of Congress this site includes several digitized collections from their holdings and collections from a number of partner libraries.  For collections relating specifically to the United States, go to the American Memory collections.

Musée du quai Branly - Digital access to one of the newest Parisian museums.  The Musée du quai Branly highlights the arts of indigenous people of Africa, Oceana, Asia, and the Americas.

World Digital Library - Digitized primary resources from all over the world brought to us by UNESCO and other partners.  The resources are presented in order to enhance better understanding between cultures and peoples of the world.
