Shelflisting
Dewey call numbers:
Sort is numeric, then alternating an alphabetic sub-sort, then a numeric sub-sort, then an
alphabetic sub-sort, etc....
The following conditions apply to the sort order in our shelflist:
- The sort is not case-sensitive
- The sort ignores punctuation (assumes a space and thus a subsequent sub-sort into a numeric or
alphabetic string)
- Prefixes are ignored for interfiling
This organization creates the following arrangements in our shelflist:
- Individual works by an author and works about an author sort within a call number range. You
must check for criticisms of an author's works further down in the sort.
- Editions sort together.
- Criticisms follow and/or inter-sort with editions (due to the alphabetic strings)
- General criticisms of an author's work will tend to follow original works and criticisms of
individual works.
- Collections are interfiled (as workmarked) with individual works.
- Translations are interfiled up to the colon; they are sub-filed alphabetically, following
editions (dates) of the individual works.
