The latest edition of the Dewey Decimal Classification, available through WebDewey, is used for classification at the University of Illinois Library, except as noted below and in separate instructions. Generally limit the Dewey number to ten or eleven digits.
The Asian Library, the Law Library, and the Music Library use the Library of Congress Classification, documented in Classification Web. The Government Documents Library uses the Superintendent of Documents Classification, as does the Law Library for its documents.
Local modifications to Dewey are followed for artists, biography and criticism, literature, material about Abraham Lincoln, and the S-Collection. For detailed instructions, see the links listed below.
