Media Collection Conversion Starts December

In December 2008 the Undergraduate Library will be converting its media collection into a new computer setup that will more tightly integrate the collection with the regular library Voyager catalog and improve service to users. This conversion will eliminate some technical issues and problems with the current software being used for media, as well as result in the following changes:

• Patrons will be able to view all media items they currently have charged out alongside books in the library online catalog under “My Account.”
• Media items can be renewed like books under My Account, as long as they have not reached their renewal limit, and there are no other bookings/future requests by other patrons on the items.
• Instructors will be able to see pending booking requests in My Account.

In order to make this conversion, all media items will need to be returned to the library by December 11th (reading day), and all media items will be building-use only during finals week. Instructors who need to use media items for classroom use during finals week can make special requests to do so by emailing undergrad@library.uiuc.edu. Once finals week ends (Friday, December 19th), all media items will remain building-use only until January 16th, once the conversion process has been completed.

We hope that these changes help simplify services for patrons and make it easier for patrons to manage and track the items they have checked out.
