After several months of study, the American Sociological Association has released its analysis of the the latest edition of the National Research Council's rankings of doctoral programs. The ASA found several problems with the NRC project. An article from Inside Higher Education discusses the findings.
On March 22, 2011 Judge Denny Chin issued his long awaited opinion on the proposed Google Books Settlement, rejecting the proposal. The issue had been joined as part of the Google digitization project that would make a large number of works available on the internet. The effects of this judgment may be wide-ranging for both libraries and educational institutions.
