World Bank Open Source Data
The World Bank has opened up a large body of development information in the form of free data sources, now accessible from its Data Catalog. The databases that are now freely available include World Development Indicators; Global Development Finance; African Development Indicators; Global Economic Monitor; Education Statistics; Health Nutrition and Population Statistics; Millennium Development Indicators; Gender Statistics; Doing Business Database; Actionable Governance Indicators; International Comparison Program; Joint External Data Hub; Logistics Performance Index; and Quarterly External Debt Statistics, both SDDS and DDDS. Tables on a variety of topics are also available from this home page. Don’t know exactly which database to use? There is a list of topics that will link you into an appropriate database and a search box for over 2,000 indicators from the World Bank.
This is a real wealth of information provided in recognition of the importance of freely available data for development, both economic and social. The World Bank indicates it will continue to add resources to this page and looks forward to developers providing a number of applications for the data.
