National Library of Finland Turns to Crowdsourcing, Games to Help Digitize Its Archives
ReadWriteWeb (http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/national_library_of_finland_turns_to_crowdsourcing.php) describes a program the National Library of Finland is using to try and correct scanning errors in their archives of digitized newspapers. They hired a company to build a casual game that asks users to compare the image of a word with what the archives thinks the word is (based on what the OCR scanning software has recorded the word as).
The goal of the project is to accelerate the tedious task of manually verifying millions of words to improve searching and recall of items from the library's digital archives. Read more about "Digitalkoot" (Digital Volunteers) here:
