Reference Services

During the Fall and Spring Semesters, Reference Services are generally available in person Monday through Thursday 9am to 6:00pm, Friday 9:00am to 6:00pm, and Sunday 1:00pm to 6:00pm at the BEL. During these times, we usually have a Library & Information Science Graduate Assistant or a Librarian available (the Reference Desk is located on the south end of the Circulation Desk) to assist you with your research needs. In order to help you better, we may ask questions such as what resources you've tried, what the purpose of your project is (are you writing a paper, etc.)? This helps us to pinpoint more precisely how to help you with your project. Sometimes, we may have the answer right away, and other times, we may need to do extra searching or consulting with our library colleagues. If we need this extra time, we'll need your name and contact information so we can share with you the results of our search.

Research Consultations

For more in-depth research needs, BEL Librarians are available by appointment. To schedule an appointment, call or email and we'll set up a time to meet with you. We are generally available until 5pm on Mon-Fri. Consultations are ideal if you are seeking guidance on research strategies for your project, or if you need one-on-one instruction in using any of our electronic resources.

Library Instruction (for Instructors)

BEL Librarians provide course-based instruction, including topics such as recommended library resources, access and use of library resources, and research strategies. To set up an instruction session for your class, please call or email us with your name, contact information, course name and number, and date or dates desired. To help us prepare our presentation, we may require information such as: scope of class & project purpose, desired duration, in your classroom or in a designated library instructional lab, type of presentation, and desired peripherals such as handouts, web pages, or tutorials. Your class syllabus and/or project outline is invaluable to us as it helps us to customize our presentation specifically for your class. If you have any collaboration ideas you'd like to share with us, please call or email Becky Smith.
