Description: General Correspondence of the Dean of Men with students, parents, administrative officers, faculty, employers and the public concerning students' personal, financial, social, housing, health and extracurricular problems; academic work; character; discipline; financial support; fraternities and other organizations; and vocational guidance. The series includes letters relating to the respective interest of Deans Thomas A. Clark (1912-1931), Fred H. Turner (1931-1943), and Edward E. Stafford (1943-1947) in students, the Council of Administration, the North Central Association, academic standing, probation, petitions, disputes with faculty, absences and cuts, dishonesty in examinations, rules and regulations, health insurance, Hospital Association and building, loans, scholarships, employment, fraternity affairs and publications, Inter-Fraternity Conference, hazing, military affairs and service, alumni clubs and retirement, war veterans, Alpha Tau Omega, Phi Eta Sigma, Rotary Club, Federal Employment Relief Administration, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Freshman Week, Cosmopolitan Club, Illinois Union, National Youth Administration, State Division of Rehabilitation, Illini Publishing Company, Illini Union, Association of College Admissions, Counselors and high school guidance conferences. The 1973-1980 file relates to affirmative action, the Bakke Decision, financial aid, handicapped students, Education Opportunity Programs, education for ex-offenders, minority students, recruiting, student athletes, student transfers and tutorial programs.
