Description: Papers of Samuel Watson Dunn (1918-97) PhD, 1951, Professor of Advertising (1949-51) and head of the Department of Advertising (1966-77), and faculty member at University of Pittsburgh (1947-49), University of Wisconsin, Madison (1951-66), and University of Missouri, Columbia (Dean of Business and Public Administration, 1977-80, Professor, 1980-83) include publications, speeches (1956-88), manuscripts, notes, clippings, course materials, reports, memoranda, grant applications, announcements, correspondence, research surveys, photographs, proceedings, videocassettes, and slides relating to the departments of advertising at University of Illinois and University of Missouri, international advertising, including the differences between U.S. and European attitudes towards advertising, Japanese advertising, Nestl‚ controversy over marketing of infant formula in Africa, advertising of multinational corporations, Dunn's overseas research (including Egypt, France and Japan), American Association of Advertising Agencies, International Advertising Association, and Smithsonian Institution-National Museum of American History's Center for Advertising History. The series also includes materials for an uncompleted book of memoirs and Dunn's books Advertising: Its Role in Modern Marketing (1964) and Public Relations (1986).
