Description: Papers of Joel Stebbins (1878-1966), Professor of Astronomy (1903-22) include reprints of articles concerning Stebbins' research with selenium photoelectric cells for measurement of astronomical bodies, variations and eclipsing of stars, and results of photoelectric study of stars. This series also includes an article on the founding of the american Section of the International Astronomical Union (Popular Astronomy, 1919), address on "Observation versus Experimentation" (Science, 1922); memoir of Jakob Kunz (Popular Astronomy, 1939) an address on "Early Photometry at Illinois" (Astronomical Society of the Pacific, 1957) and an article about Stebbins from the Nebraska Alumnus, 1936. This series also includes the medallion for the 1913 Rumford Prize, awarded to Stebbins by the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, for his development of the selenium photometer and its application to astronomical problems.
