The University Library provides Library faculty and staff with access to instructional space in order to facilitate the conduct of instruction and information literacy programs, to promote the educational mission of the Library, and to support teaching and learning by members of the faculty, staff, and students of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Instructional space is provided primarily in order to support teaching and training by and among Library faculty and staff, and to promote Library programs including instruction and information literacy, staff training and development, and outreach and public engagement. For the purpose of this policy, "instructional space" includes (but is not limited to) established instructional labs and seminar rooms located in Library facilities.
Library instructional space is reserved for the use of Library faculty and staff engaged in teaching and training activities. The exception to this rule is 295 Undergraduate Library, which has been designed as a group media viewing facility and may be reserved for that purpose by Urbana campus instructors. In order to assist Library faculty and staff in selecting the most appropriate instructional space for their needs, the Office of Library Facilities maintains a list of all Library instructional spaces, including: 1) individual space use policies; 2) description of furnishings and available instructional support technology; and 3) contact information for room reservation.
Assuming no instructional need for the space, Library faculty and staff may also reserve instructional labs and seminar rooms for administrative purposes on a case-by-case basis. Instructional space should be considered as the last option for administrative purposes, as the University Library provides its faculty and staff with access to administrative space to facilitate the conduct of the administrative work of the Library and the governance activities of the Library faculty (e.g., 428 Library). Faculty seeking to reserve Library instructional space for administrative purposes should consult the appropriate space use policy, or contact the Office of Library Facilities to be directed to the appropriate scheduling authority.
