Graduate Hourly Research Programmer

7 hours per week

October 16, 2012 – April 15, 2013

 

A research programmer is needed for a Library research project conducting network analyses and visualizations with a large data set of library catalog data. This graduate hourly position will be from October 16, 2012 through April 15, 2013, and will be for approximately seven (7) hours per week.

 This position will provide the student with hands-on experience in programming for a research project and usage of XSEDE supercomputing resources. The graduate hourly will carry out the following tasks to assist with the research project:

 Work with principal investigators to revise currently written SQL queries and R code for research analyses

 REQUIRED:

-          Currently enrolled UIUC graduate student

-          Organized and attentive to detail

-          Fluent in SQL and R

-          Familiarity with igraph

 PREFERRED:

-          Degree-seeking graduate student in the Graduate School of Library and Information Science, Informatics, or Department of Computer Science

-          Knowledge of Python

-          Familiarity with social network analysis and visualization software packages
