Position Available:
A .25 Graduate Assistant position has opened in the Office of Collections. This endowed assistantship is a twelve-month appointment and is available beginning Jan. 16, 2012, with a possibility of continuation as an annual appointment. In addition to a salary, the position carries an In-State Tuition Waiver.
Duties:
Reporting to the Associate Dean of Libraries for Collections, the incumbent supports the Office of Collections. Likely projects shall focus on the analysis and forecasting of expenditures for the current fiscal year, supporting the development of the annual collections budget for the upcoming fiscal year, and working with the Associate Dean of collections, the Assistant Dean for Business Operations and management Information, the Acquisitions Librarian, and the Electronic Resources Librarian (or their designates) on preparing materials for the Library's subject specialists that will assist in their role as fund managers, and the potential to work on projects supporting grants and other similar administrative activities. Opportunities also exist for other work on collection development and management-related projects.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate shall engage in research related to the allocation and use of the Library's collections budget, management and oversight of collections, development of policies and procedures, development of procedures and documentation associated with facilitating the communication of financial information to librarians, and help in policy development. The graduate assistant may be called upon to attend meetings of librarians and staff, work with librarians throughout the system, and present findings to members of the LIbrary's faculty at meetings. The hours are flexible, and require at least one meeting with the AD for Collections each week.
Required: Enrollment in MLIS (or equivalent) degree program. The ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Applicants should have demonstrated ability to be flexible and work independently as well as cooperatively with others in a team environment. Strong skills and/or experience in statistics, accounting, or financial administration as well as an understanding of budget cycles. Demonstrated facility with Microsoft Excel and comfrot with its use.
