Volume 5, Issue 2, Spring 2004 Library Spotlight: Sousa Archives and Center for American Music The Sousa Archives and Center for American Music supports and facilitates research, education, and public engagement by preserving and providing access to the nation’s music heritage. It includes the world’s single largest collection of original music compositions and arrangements by John Philip Sousa. E stablished in 1994 as the Sousa Archives for Band Research, it was renamed in January 2004 to better reflect its archival and artifactual holdings, which focus broadly on American music. Its mission is to provide students, faculty, researchers, and the general public with access to its historical papers and objects through a combination of reference resources, on-site and Web-based tours, and educational programs.
