OpenURL Link Resolver Implementation Team (OLRIT, pronounced "All right!")

Team Charge:
The OpenURL Link
Resolver Implementation Team is appointed by and reports to the Library’s
Access Strategy Team. The group can
be referred to by its acronym OLRIT,
which is conveniently pronounceable as “All right!”
The team is responsible for planning and oversight of the implementation of the ExLibris SFX product for the UIUC Library.
ILCSO currently estimates the SFX product to be licensed for our use by mid January 2005.
Update: Actual date of approved contract was June 1st, 2005
Production rollout of the service to Library users is expected by the beginning of Summer I semester 2005 or sooner during the Fall 2005 semester.
The final report of the Team should be presented to the Access Strategy Team by August 1, 2005 Dec. 30, 2005.
The responsibilities of OLRIT are to:

Develop a statement of goals and scope for the OpenURL link resolution service

Develop and maintain a project plan and timeline for the implementation

Maintain project updates for Library personnel on the Library web site

Decide standard nomenclature and/or imagery to be used within all
OpenURL-enabled resources to indicate a link to resolution services

Become familiar with OpenURL linking in general, and with the features available in the SFX product
-
Provide recommendations and priorities to Library Systems and Acquisitions personnel
regarding the activation of resources for targets and sources of OpenURL linking

Ensure that appropriate user authorization mechanisms are in place

Design and test the service before public rollout

Collaborate with the Federated Search Pilot Project Implementation Team (“the Feds”)
to ensure that link resolution is enabled for the information resources and services
selected for inclusion in the Feds’ pilot project

Collaborate with the ISCC Public Interface Team (PIT) on the configuration of
OpenURL services to and from the Illinet Online catalog

Collaborate with IRRC on configuration of ILL request services from the link resolver
-
Collaborate with the Staff Training Advisory Committee to arrange training or orientation
available to all Library staff on the use of the link resolver service

Measure usage and effectiveness of the service and make recommendations on statistical records that should be kept for analysis

Recommend a process or responsible party for future decisions regarding the service

Submit final project report to Access Strategy Team
